SHS is a Shell Scrap Object files file used by Microsoft programs to embed the text and objects into another kind of file.

Microsoft applications (Word and Excel) generates SHS file at desktop when a user drags the selective text and drops within a Excel or Word file. This is used to copy and paste the document to another document.

When a user Copy or Cut a text from one file, the copied text is stored in the Windows Clipboard which creates a SHS file to store the copied information.

There is no application which can directly open SHS file extension. An icon is created on the Desktop when SHS file is created and when a user deletes this icon, its scrap file is also vanished.

Microsoft has stopped supporting the SHS file with Windows Vista and latter version. The Earlier edition of Windows Operating System contains Shell Scrap Object Handler stored in the Shscrap.dll which handles the SHS file.

Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 does not support these files as these operating systems does not contains the SHS Shell Scrap Object Handler.
